The
University Lodge Scheme
The Hull Old Grammarians’ Lodge No.5129
is a participant in the Universities Lodge Scheme which is
being promoted
by the United
Grand Lodge of England as a means of furthering and encouraging
Freemasonry amongst university undergraduates, graduates and
staff at universities in the Hull area.
The Hull Old Grammarians’ Lodge was originally
formed from Old Boys and Masters of the former Hull Grammar School,
which students,
post-graduates and other university members may find welcoming.
The Lodge is a member of the Federation of Schools Lodges.
One of the aims of Freemasonry in general is to promote lasting
friendships. With the introduction of the Universities Scheme this
will create an opportunity to extend this into a fun loving and
enjoyable environment.
The Lodge will be arranging an open evening in the near future
when it will be possible for those interested in learning more
about what we do, and the aims of Freemasonry, to come along to
one of our meetings and have the opportunity to look around the
lodge and ask questions. There will also be an optional meal after
the meeting which visitors are welcome to attend, which will give
further opportunity to discuss Freemasonry with individual members
of the lodge, in a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
The normal age for initiation into a Freemasons lodge is 21 years,
however, special dispensation may be granted for university students
from the age of 18 years.
If you are presently studying at a university in the Hull area,
and wish to become a Freemason, or learn more please contact the
Lodge Secretary W.Bro John Plater by e mail secretary.5129@virgin.net,
in the first instance.
